Dosage

Description

The Dosage decribes the patient specific information about the intake of a drug. It is defined requirements, which suspend therapy planning and allows some text entries instead of complicated structures. The mayor part of the dosage is the description of the daily schedule of the intake. When do the patient needs to intake the drug. How many units need to be taken? How many intakes a day are necessary?

Use

– Only use for one drug and medication.
– Only for one period of dosage.
– Concrete dosage for a specific patient.

Not use

– Not use for information regarding drugs or medication.
– Do not use for multiple drugs or medications.
– Not for medication schemas.
– Not of common information about intake of drug.
– Do not use for therapy planning (e.g. Marcumar dosing or chemotherapy).

Data Model

Name Type M Description Example
amount UnitValue The count/number of units, which are prescribed and the kind of unit for the prescribed item. “value”: {“value”: 5,”unit”: “pills”,”valueText”: “5 pills”}
singleDose UnitValue The value is amount or piece of unit, which define a single dosage intake dose and the belonging unit aligned with a catalog (e.g. piece or mg). In some countries drug intake will be scheduled in unit dosageforms and in other in amount of ingredient. The unit of the single dose has relation to medication.drug.dosageform. “value”: {“value”: 1,”unit”: “pill”,”valueText”: “1 pill”}
morning Float Number of single dose (defined in “singledose” as value and unit) taken in the morning. 1.5
forenoon Float Number of single dose (defined in “singledose” as value and unit) taken in the forenoon. 1.5
noon Float Number of single dose (defined in “singledose” as value and unit) taken at noon. 1.5
afternoon Float Number of single dose (defined in “singledose” as value and unit) taken in the afternoon. 1.5
evening Float Number of single dose (defined in “singledose” as value and unit) taken in the evening. 1.5
night Float Number of single dose (defined in “singledose” as value and unit) taken in the night/ at bedtime. 1.5
perInterval Float Number of single dose (defined in “singledose” as value and unit) for a given interval. 1.5
intervalTime h (Float) The time in hours between two intakes of a dose (per day) e.g. “8” h in 24h. 8
intervalNumber Float Number of Intervalls (per day) e.g. “3” times in 1 day. 3
weekdays Integer [ ] On which weekdays the dose must be taken? Can be used to represent LongIntervals. [1,3,5]

  • Mon, wed, fri
onDemand Boolean Not regular scheduled drug, conditions for intake may be specified separately. Only take dose on demand (if needed e.g. headache)? false
routeOfAdministration CodedEntry Route of administration for the concerned drug,
given by a code from a supported catalog and a human-readable text (e.g. oral for intake per mouth).The route of administration describes on which, through which or into which part of the body the product is to be introduced (oral, intravenously, inhaled, etc.).

description String This is a description field for the dosage. “Some description text.”

Rules

– If interval is used, all interval fields must be filled.
– If interval is used, the “daytime-fields” (e.g. morning, evening) should be left blank.

To describe how much of the drug should be taken, often a combination of the number of single dose plus the specific times of the day when the drug should be administered is given. E.g. if one single dose (100mg tablet) needs to be taken in the moring and two in the evening then the field for morning contains “1” and evening contains “2”. The other fields would be left empty in this case.

If a single dose needs to be taken e.g. every 8 hours, the fields for daily schedule are left empty and the field IntervalTime should contain the number “8”. To describe how many single doses have to be taken every x hours, in this case every 8 hours, the field “perInterval” has to be used.

The unit for intervalTime is hours per day. This means the time between the single doses on a day.

The intervalNumber means a number of Intervalls in the timeperiod od one day (24h). Meaning how often a single dose per day should be taken.
